2002 TTL Instructional Design & Professional Practice Components


UNIT OF STUDY

Participants will engage in collaborative and independent activities to plan, design, and evaluate learning experiences that include:
£      Clear alignment with South Dakota Content Standards
£      Project/lesson assessments that allow students, teachers and parents to monitor progress and adapt educational activities appropriately
£      Engaging activities which develop student information literacy and problem solving skills
£      Student presentations produced for a variety of audiences to illustrate student knowledge, skills and understandings
£      Lesson activities that maximize student learning by matching appropriate technology resources to instructional and learner needs
£      Alignment with National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS)
£      Evidence of equal access of technological resources for all students

Required Products:
£      An original unit of study that includes all SD-DDN Unit of Study components. 
£      Submission of Unit of Study to the SD-DDN Unit Bank

Participants will engage in collaborative and independent activities to plan, design, evaluate and maintain a professional web site that includes:
£      The complete Unit of Study and related components
£      Resource links to support professional growth and practice
£      Content, graphic design, and navigation links that are appropriate to the web site purpose

Required Products:
£      Professional web site that is related to classroom/professional practice and Unit of Study.

ASCD ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSE

Participants will engage in online staff development that takes advantage of web-based technologies to enhance professional practice.

Course participants will:
£      Participants will select any one of the ASCD Online PD Courses
£      Complete ASCD course lessons as Academy time allows (at least one lesson per week)
£      Share relevant observations and discuss issues
£      Apply what is learned to Unit of Study design, evaluation and implementation

Required Products:                            
£      Completion of at least one ASCD Online Course Lesson each week of the Academy.
£      Participation in group discussions.

WEBCT DISCUSSION FORUMS AND DDN VIDEOCONFERENCE SESSIONS 

Participants will engage in online and videoconference discussions to:
£      Access Academy information and documents
£      Exchange ideas and research
£      Reflect on professional beliefs and practices

OPTIONAL GRADUATE and RENEWAL CREDIT

·        Participants may earn three (3) semester hours of graduate OR renewal credit during the Summer Academy Session.

·        Participants must complete all requirements stated in the graduate/renewal syllabus.

·        Participants are responsible for registration, fee payment, and completion of syllabus requirements.

·        Registration for the summer course will occur during the first week of the summer Academy.

·        Additional credit opportunities may be available during the 2002-2003 school year. Information concerning course requirements and registration will be made available prior to the close of the summer Academy.
