Avoid misunderstandings. Be sure that both you and your administrator(s) share an understanding of the school district's responsibilities and you responsibilities as a participant.

What is Advanced TTL?

Advanced TTL has been developed as the direct result of the interest and requests of Basic TTL academy graduates and others interested in having an opportunity to extend their technical skills and capabilities. Advanced TTL is a two-week residential academy focusing on advanced technologies and skill extension with familiar applications.

This academy will be held simultaneously at Black Hills State UniversityDakota State University, Northern State University, and the University of South Dakota.

Purpose:

Advanced TTL will build upon the skills and abilities presented at the Basic TTL academies. Advanced TTL will allow participants to extend their skill with familiar applications such as the MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook), but it will also introduce many new technology tools and procedures. These will include video editing, use of streaming video, recording to DVD, PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants such as Palm Pilot) and their applications to curriculum, digital photography and editing, and advanced web design.

  • General:  As with other TTL academies, Advanced TTL is funded through the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs as a part of its ongoing effort to develop and implement improved forms of continuing and sustained professional development opportunities for educators.

  • Lodging: On campus lodging will be provided for those individuals who attend Advanced TTL. No assistance will be allowed for those who opt to stay off campus.

  • Meals: Three meals per day and both morning and afternoon snacks will be provided to participants on campus. No assistance will be allowed for those who opt to eat off campus.

  • Stipend: A $500.00 stipend is provided for each individual who attends the Advanced TTL academy. This amount is sent to the teacher's school district for payment through normal payroll channels. (Only "customary and ordinary" deductions are to be withheld from the stipend.)

  • Transportation: Each school district agrees to provide for at least one round trip for each participant. Attending the academy.

  • Re-certification Credit: Re-certification (Renewal) credit is available for successful completion of the Advanced TTL academy. This credit is available to interested participants from the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs (DECA) at NO COST.

  • Graduate Credit: Additional credit opportunities will be available to Advanced TTL Academy participants. Costs for these credits will be the participant's responsibility.

Eligibility:

Certified educators, who are presently under contract with a South Dakota school district, and who have responsibility for direct teaching and/or instructional leadership.

Applicants must have attended a TTL Academy or provide evidence of technical, instructional, and curriculum skills that are consistent with those of TTL Academy graduates. They should also have a strong interest in and technology skills sufficient to address the advanced subjects that will be covered during this academy.
