Q: I would like
to attend TTL NA, but I will have to miss several days for a ------ event.
Will this
affect my TTL acceptance?
A: Due to the intensity of the academy training, absence is inadvisable.
Also, since participants are paid
for Academy involvement, it is expected that they will participate fully.
The only reasons for
non-participation/non-attendance that are generally acceptable are illness
or a family emergency.
If an extended absence is necessary,
you should apply in a subsequent year when you can give your
full attention to TTL for the duration of the academy.
Q: I am not a certified
teacher. Am I eligible to attend TTL NA?
A: You need not be a certified teacher to attend TTL NA.
However, you must be employed by a
South Dakota school district to provide some level of network
administration and support.
Q: I have been accepted into TTL
NA this coming Summer. However, I’ve now accepted a
position with a different school district. Is there anything that I
need to do?
A: Yes. Immediately notify the TTL project Manager, Harris Haupt (hhaupt@tie.net).
Give complete
details of your changed situation. Be sure to include your telephone
number and e-mail address so
the manager can contact you if necessary.
Follow all directions that result
from this contact. Failure to do so will cause delays in payment
of your stipend and support allocation.
Q: I am currently attending the
TTL NA Academy and have just accepted a position with a
new school district. What should I do?
A: Immediately notify the TTL project Manager, Harris Haupt (hhaupt@tie.net).

details of your changed situation. Be sure to include your telephone
number and e-mail address so
the manager can contact you if necessary.

Q: I recently completed the TTL
NA Academy and have now accepted employment with a
new school district. Is there anything that I need to do?
A: Yes. Immediately notify the TTL project Manager, Harris Haupt (hhaupt@tie.net).

Q: What happens if I should have
to drop out of the Academy after it has started? Do
I loose the opportunity to attend in the future?
A: If you drop out due to unforeseen emergency reasons (health, family
emergency, etc.), your
chances for future attendance will not be impaired. However, if you drop
out for light and transient
reasons, doubt may be cast on your chances for future acceptance. If you
foresee any
circumstances that may prevent you from completing the Academy once you
start, it may be
better that you opt to not apply during the current year.
Q: I just want to learn a little
about Network Administration to see if I'm interested in working with
it in the future. May I attend?
A: The TTL NA Academy’s purpose is
to help "insure that South Dakota school districts have trained
personnel who possess the expertise necessary to properly manage and
maintain their computer
networks to support and facilitate educational utilization."
Therefore, your district is required to sign
assurances that you are or will in the immediate future be involved as
part of their network administration team.
Q: I am scheduled for a session
this summer, but would like to change to another session. Can I
do that?
A: Requested changes from one session to another will be handled on a
case-by-case basis and will
be granted only if space is available in the requested session.
No changes will be granted within
two weeks preceding the start of a session.
Q: How long do I have to
wait for my money?
A: Your stipend is usually sent to your school district within two
to three weeks after the end of the
session you attend. Your stipend is then paid to you by the district.
Appropriate deductions will be
made from your stipend. These deductions usually include only income tax
and social security
withholding. Payment of your stipend must be approved at a regularly
scheduled school board
meeting. Depending on when the money arrives from DECA, this may cause
some delay in your
receipt date.
Q: Would I be allowed to
take the amount allocated for a dorm room and apply it to off-campus
accommodations?
A: No. There is no reimbursement for those who elect not to stay on
campus. Any off-campus living
costs would be totally your responsibility.
Q: Could I use the
on-campus meal allowance to buy meals off-campus?
A: No. Meal and housing allowances are not paid to participants.
They are paid to the campuses and
other host sites to provideservices to participants. There is no
reimbursement to those who opt not to
use the provided services.
Q: I have a small child. If
I arrange for daycare, can I have my son/daughter stay in my dorm
room with me at night?
A: No. Dorms are not equipped for young children nor is it
considered appropriate to house children
with adults in a working environment. Also, single-occupancy rooms
are not available. Therefore, you
may be housed with another particiant. Finally, most campuses have
restrictions on housing family
members in dorm rooms.
Q: On occasion, I may not
have daycare for my child(ren). Will it be OK if I bring them along
to class witth me once in awhile?
A: At no time may children or other dependents be brought to class.
The academy is an intense
learning and work environment for professionals. It provides participants
the opportuniy for unfettered
interraction with colleaques and peers. The introduction of children or
other dependents into that
environment would create an unacceptable intrusion that may adversely
alter the requisite working
conditions. |
